First in the Educate@Ashburton series of events
The first Educate@Ashburton event ‘Ophthalmology for Primary Care’ took place on Wednesday 23rd January 2019. Despite some difficult weather conditions, the event went well and was a successful launch of the new CPD series.
The event was opened by Dan Read who welcomed delegates to the first event before introducing Neil Baxter from the Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB). Neil gave a short presentation about the work RNIB do and displayed some of their innovative products designed to assist blind and partially sighted people with everyday tasks such as making a cup of tea, crossing the road and reading.
Once Neil had finished we passed over to Mike Briggs, an Ophthalmic Surgeon from St Pauls Eye Hospital, Liverpool. Mike gave a detailed and informative presentation on glaucoma, common eye conditions and an eye drops overview. Once the presentation was finished there was a number of interesting questions from delegates relating to the treatment of patients with eye conditions.
The feedback from the evening was largely positive and gave us some really useful points to work on for the next event to try and improve on what was a successful first event.
The hard work is now on to prepare thoroughly for the next Educate@Ashburton event, Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Failure on Wednesday 20th February, where Ashburton's own Lynne Garforth will be presenting alongside Heart Failure expert Pharmacist Rocco Hadland.
